Yellow Jacket™
A prefabricated jacketed pile sleeve utilized for reducing the negative skin friction on abutment piles embedded behind MSE wall abutments. The addition of MSE wall construction backfill creates a surcharge on the underlying soils that inevitably settles to some degree. The YELLOW JACKET™ system creates a slip plane between the settling abutment backfill and the previously driven bridge abutment piles resulting in a significant reduction of the negative downdrag imposed on the piles.
Advantages
- Substantial cost savings vs. other method

|
- Minimal installation costs
|
- Eliminates Bitumen coatings

- Highly resistant to corrosion and chemicals common to construction
- Provides an excellent slip plane between the earth and piling
Construction Benefits
- Eliminates design problems associated with adjacent piling too close for conventional cans.
- Eliminates contractors’ dependence upon sub-contractors performance.
- Increased job productivity, because the panels are lightweight and flexible, installed easily and quickly requiring only unskilled labor.
- Rapid assembly combined with low labor and "NO" equipment requirements result in project cost savings.
- No mess, no personnel exposure and no worry regarding mil thickness requirements as with Bitumen coatings.
